Fields of work

We help to connect organizations within any sector with their stakeholders and increase their social impact.

Strategic Stakeholder Engagement can be deployed for any issue where diverging interests come together. We therefore operate in the challenging space between different fields of work. To connect these fields, our practice is overarching rather than sectoral. However, an initiative often starts from a specific field. A part of the fields of work in which we operate is listed below.

Infrastructure & Transport

The urgency to renew and expand infrastructure and transport capabilities is great. At the same time, infrastructure projects are increasingly under scrutiny, and space is limited. This leads to conflicting spatial claims, delayed decision-making, and shaky support for implementation. SSE was created in response to these issues surrounding infrastructure, and that is why we support organizations with complex, politically and administratively sensitive infrastructure tasks.

Clients include

Energy

The energy transition demands an unprecedented acceleration of spatial interventions. Think of new cables, wind and solar farms, and nuclear power plants. At the same time, housing shortages create additional pressure on implementation, and energy managers and developers must contend with societal and political sensitivity surrounding these interventions. The impact is significant, while space is scarce. SSE offers a solution within this complexity.

Clients include

Water

The pressure on our water system is increasing: increasing drought, climate adaptation, and area development, among other factors, are putting water quality, safety, and availability under pressure. At the same time, water demand is growing, and new drinking water sources need to be found. Despite the desire for clean drinking water and dry feet, interventions are increasingly being questioned. Because of their spatial impact, or due to their effect on nature and the living environment. Because interventions related to basic needs also touch upon other interests.

Clients include

Defence

Due to geopolitical developments and wars, significant investments are being made in the defense of the Netherlands. After years of cutbacks, the Ministry of Defence is growing again. The various developments often have a major impact on stakeholders. This requires insight into and the integration of all interests in decision-making and strategy. Establishing SOM effectively lays the foundation for the coming years and is therefore necessary for moving forward. We support the Ministry of Defence with various complex tasks in this regard.

Urban area development

Development space in the Netherlands is scarce, but the challenges in urban areas are significant. Consider creating space for housing, services, and education, among other things. Space constraints, competing interests, diverse cultures, and a history of past projects make the dynamics challenging. This complexity demands connection and an integrated approach. That's why we help governments, developers, and urban networks shape SOM.

Clients include

Rural area development

Even in rural areas, every postage stamp is in use. Nevertheless, a lot needs to be done here in the coming years across various tasks. To achieve their goals, parties are therefore increasingly dependent on each other. Interventions in the water system, for example, affect the interests of farmers and the surrounding nature. To set a clear course and enable cooperation, we help organizations implement SOM (System of Management) and a area-specific approach.

Clients include

Industry & Manufacturing

The industry and chemical cluster are under pressure, and public support for their environmental impact is declining. Together with challenges such as the energy transition and grid congestion, permitting issues are increasingly causing societal and political tensions. This means that companies must deliver more than just a technically sound narrative. Therefore, we help industrial organizations operate as a reliable partner through SOM in an environment where public opinion, administrative pressure, and regulations are becoming increasingly decisive.

Clients include

Safety

The security domain is characterized by societal sensitivity, political pressure, and high public expectations. At the same time, it primarily relates to short-term threats and crises, resulting in short processing times for cases. SOM offers unique added value within this field: it strengthens collaboration between chain partners, among other things, and manages expectations in a tense stakeholder field. Therefore, we support organizations in developing strategies that acknowledge this complexity.
