What did you do before you came to WesselinkVanZijst?

During and after my Graphic Design studies, I worked extensively in the hospitality industry. This included working in Australia while backpacking. My goal was to see a lot of the country and experience the local lifestyle. By not just traveling but also working, this was very successful! I remember that people there are very relaxed. The attitude of ‘it will all be alright’ was deeply ingrained, and it often proved to be true.

Back in the Netherlands, I started working at Vebego Facility Solutions for the FrieslandCampina HQ. Here, I was part of the service desk for internal employees. Together with another colleague, we handled requests or forwarded them to the caretaker, IT desk, or floor host. These requests could be about anything, from a broken toilet seat to booking a room. Additionally, we managed the meeting rooms and kept track of the building's statistics. This included the number of people present on each floor daily. Finally, I was the point of contact for stakeholder Spie, who visited almost daily to work on the building.

In all these experiences, I was driven by customer contact. Staying in touch with people, planning well, and handling tasks correctly are some of the things that still motivate me in my work. Communication is central to this, something I've learned well over the past few years.

What do you mainly focus on at WesselinkVanZijst?

I work at the secretariat of the SOM Academy. I handle everything related to the training courses. This includes communicating with clients and trainers about scheduling, participants, and locations, among other things. I also ensure that trainers receive the necessary information and materials. Scheduling the training courses requires careful coordination with the trainers' calendars. Therefore, clear and open communication plays an important role in my work. I find it very important that clients and colleagues feel heard and that agreements are clearly and reliably followed up on.

What drives you in your work?

In my work, I am primarily driven by calm and clarity. I find satisfaction in the moment when everything that needs to be done is actually finished. When tasks are completed well, the planning is correct, and no one experiences stress, I know I have done my job well. I particularly enjoy and value contact with clients. Since I have a lot of interaction with these individuals or organizations, I am the "face" of WesselinkVanZijst. Communication is also very important here, something you constantly keep learning about.

What do you like to do most when you're not at work?

I enjoy spending my time with my family. This includes my partner, my son, and myself. We play outside a lot, and I really enjoy teaching my son new things.

I also really enjoy baking and like to do it for friends, family, and colleagues. When I'm baking, I don't have to think about anything else and can let my creativity run wild. I often test new recipes for my family, and once they're approved, I share them with my family, friends, and colleagues. I can't wait to do this with my son soon!
