Amber Visch

Marketing & communications consultant

Amber combines an academic background in conflict studies with a passion for writing and creation. Within WesselinkVanZijst, she supports the organization as a Marketing and communications consultant. In her role, she carefully combines content and form with the aim of telling a powerful and clear story. She achieves this through text, as well as photos and videos.

What did you do before you came to WesselinkVanZijst?

My job at WesselinkVanZijst is my first ‘grown-up job.’ After meeting Bas at the MGA event in 2023, I went straight from academia to the company. Before joining WesselinkVanZijst, I studied at the University of Amsterdam. I started with musicology, then delved deeper into political science and postcolonial studies, and finally completed my master's in Conflict Resolution & Governance. After a fantastic first semester, I left for Nepal to research ‘relationality’ at a community service NGO. At the same time, I started my blog Amber Eats Abroad and I became increasingly skilled in writing, photography, and videography.

What do you mainly focus on at WesselinkVanZijst?

I started at WesselinkVanZijst as junior consultant and have done assignments for the Ministry of Defence, the Central Government Real Estate Agency, and Gasunie, among others, for two years. During that time, I also turned out to be the creative jack-of-all-trades. I supervised the video productions for the new Practical Guide and was heavily involved in the design of presentations and products. Gradually, more and more work emerged from this, such as coordinating the new website, so in 2025 I decided to switch to my role as a marketing and communications consultant.

Although the website is now live, I'm spending my two days at WesselinkVanZijst tracking and further developing it. I maintain the content calendar for our LinkedIn, articles, and newsletter, and direct colleagues in producing texts. I edit these, but I also write, photograph, and film for the different channels myself. Additionally, I spend part of my time implementing the new house style. These are all activities that give me a lot of energy.

What drives you in your work?

Storytelling is central to everything I do. Both my own stories, and those of colleagues and the world around me. In my experience, stories can be used to create more understanding and empathy in the world. They are a tool to capture the beauty and complexity of the world in an understandable way. Whether through text, image, or audio, I am immensely driven by cracking these kinds of puzzles.

What do you like to do most when you're not at work?

I am fortunate to have work that makes me incredibly happy. Writing, photographing, and making videos: that's what energizes me. I do this for WesselinkVanZijst and my own company, Amber Eats Abroad. In the latter, my passions for writing and creating come together with my passion for travel. So in my free time, I also read a lot of travel literature and am always planning my next trip. When I really need to relax, I enjoy reading a fantasy book or sweating it all out during a sports class.
