The five-day Strategic Stakeholder Engagement Professional Training is the follow-up to the SSE Basic Training. In this training, you will deepen your knowledge and skills in Strategic Stakeholder Engagement. The program is developed for and by professionals who play an active role in multi-stakeholder processes and want to develop more strategic strength within them.
What you will do during SSE Professional
Complex challenges where interests clash, decisions are under pressure, and the environment is increasingly critical demand more from stakeholder engagement than just the basics. Even experienced professionals face tensions, political dynamics, and unpredictable stakeholder relationships. SSE Professional offers you the deeper understanding to act with greater oversight, strategic insight, and leadership.
In this training, you will undertake an important deepening of the SSE Basic Training. You will learn how to make well-founded strategic choices, design an SSE process, and prepare decision-making. You will also work on building trust, transforming conflicts, and closing secured agreements and alliances. Considerable attention will be paid to your role awareness and personal leadership, so you can stand stronger in the challenging practical reality.
The training is set up as blended learning: you will attend on-site meetings, alternating with online sessions and self-study. Via the SSE Learning Platform, you get access to theory, assignments, and background material. In between all meetings, there will be peer supervision, and you will work on your own case study or development plan. This ensures a learning path that is both in-depth and easily applicable to your work practice.
All the teachers are top-notch in their field. I listened intently to their practical stories, which further deepened the theory. It was also very instructive to chew on our own questions together with fellow students.
Who is SSE Professional for?
The SSE Professional course is developed for professionals responsible for environmental management in complex projects. For example, do you advise your organization on communication and stakeholder management? Or on the strategic advocacy of your organization towards politics, government, and the social environment? Then this course offers you the necessary depth and skills.
We assume you have completed the Basic SSE Training. In that training, you were introduced to the Mutual Gains mindset, practiced with interests and positions, and learned to work with concepts such as Joint Fact Finding and BATNA. You conducted an environmental analysis, developed a stakeholder strategy, and held ANNA-talks and negotiation simulations. Do you have sufficient relevant work experience but haven't completed the Basic Training yet? Then we'd be happy to look at the possibility of you following both courses consecutively.

Why train at the SSE Academy of WesselinkVanZijst
At WesselinkVanZijst, we work on the complex societal challenges of the present day. Our trainers are therefore strongly embedded in the daily practice of SSE: they are involved in societal changes with high stakes, acting as strategic stakeholder engagement professionals, process facilitators, or negotiation experts. For the past fifteen years, our consultants have, in addition to guiding organizations and professionals through complex societal issues, trained 5,000 colleagues and are currently delivering around 100 training sessions annually in the Netherlands and abroad. For all our training courses, we utilize the didactic philosophy of the SSE Academy.
As developers of the SSE method, we are also actively involved in the further development of the field on a daily basis through publications and podcasts, among other things. In this, we work closely with our knowledge partners, including the Global Network of the Consensus Building Institute (CBI) and the Dutch Mutual Gains Network. In the Netherlands, we provide modules within training programs for the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the AOG School of Management.
