When disputes over facts hinder a good process and outcome, Joint Fact Finding (JFF) offers a solution. JFF is a method where parties collaboratively seek a factual basis that all project stakeholders agree upon. Curious about how to shape such a process? In this training, you will learn the components of JFF, when and how to implement it, and what to do with the outcomes.

This training is offered exclusively in-company.

What you are going to do

To achieve good results with collaboration partners in projects, you need a common factual basis. It's the foundation of the project. But often, it seems as though the project parties view the same subject in completely different ways. Soon, “their own” facts are thrown around, or a new report is commissioned to debunk another report. This is how disputes creep into the process, making it very difficult to collaborate on a project outcome.

This is where JFF can offer a solution. JFF helps participants conduct joint research in a structured manner. From defining research questions and selecting researchers, to discussing initial results and drawing conclusions. The outcome is a shared factual basis on which a project can build.

In this half-day training, you will learn when it is sensible to use JFF, how to do it, and what added value JFF can bring to your project. You will learn from practical examples and work on your own case or that of a colleague.

For whom it is

The JFF training is for anyone who deals with factual disputes in their work. From stakeholder engagement managers, project managers and project leaders, to communication and public affairs advisors and strategic advisors to executives.

What this training will give you

Upon completion of this training:

  • You have exchanged experiences and insights about the dilemma of people's "own" facts in projects, programs, research, and policy changes.
  • You know what the JFF instrument is and you recognize situations where you can use it.
  • You have learned how to go through JFF in different steps.
  • You have learned how JFF is applicable within your own practice.

Why train at the SSE Academy of WesselinkVanZijst

At WesselinkVanZijst, we work on the complex societal challenges of the present day. Our trainers are therefore strongly embedded in the daily practice of SSE: they are involved in societal changes with high stakes, acting as strategic stakeholder engagement professionals, process facilitators, or negotiation experts. For the past fifteen years, our consultants have, in addition to guiding organizations and professionals through complex societal issues, trained 5,000 colleagues and are currently delivering around 100 training sessions annually in the Netherlands and abroad. For all our training courses, we utilize the didactic philosophy of the SSE Academy.

As developers of the SSE method, we are also actively involved in the further development of the field on a daily basis through publications and podcasts, among other things. In this, we work closely with our knowledge partners, including the Global Network of the Consensus Building Institute (CBI) and the Dutch Mutual Gains Network. In the Netherlands, we provide modules within training programs for the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the AOG School of Management.
